Subang Jaya Community Youth Football League

a league for kids where no one is paid and everyone plays!

It's that time again; the cheering of the crowd, the passion, the power play, penalty shootouts and the occasional uncalled-for weather. Yes, I'm talking about the SJCYFL's much anticipated 12th season. In preparation for the league programme, the annual assessment was held on Sunday, 15th of January, 2012 at the SMK USJ 4 field.

The assessment was supposed to start at 3pm but the excitement encapsulated by the boys could no longer be contained and they were already on the field kicking the ball and showing off their massive dribbling skills. Seems like a tradition of our league that the weather had to throw a tantrum at the start by recording a scorching 38 degrees Celcius. Boy, was it hot!!!!

The main purpose of an assessment is to ensure that each team is balanced as evenly as possible at the start of the season. If you didn't already know, the league has four divisions consisting of the Premiers, Seniors, Majors and Juniors. Each division comprises of 6 teams. During the assessment, the boys from each division were divided in to several groupings and once done so were put through a series of drills, such as pass and move, ball control, throw ins, and footwork. For the older divisions, the drills were done in the form of a football match with a referee while an assessor would assess them. Be sure to check out the official SJCYFL website for more information on team allocations.

Phew, now that the hard stuff is over, the action will begin in the coming weeks. The players will be getting their jerseys handed out to them. Our very own version of the English Premier League will seize and thrill you. A battle between old rivals and firms will awaken. Spirits flying high and the never ending cheering from the sidelines, pushing and motivating the players. The excitement reaching fever pitch upon the scoring of a goal and the players and supporters (errrr…….. parents) alike, celebrating victory in their very own style.

And amidst all this excitement, parents use this time to catch up with old mates and make new ones. Stepping out of their "boxes" and just enjoying a little family time with their children sums up what this league is all about; different people coming together, celebrating the passion and their love for the game with their kids. So it doesn't matter if you are not a sports fan, you can come and have a great time, hopefully without getting sunburnt (bring lots and lots of sunblock).

You can expect some of the magic of Messi and the skills of Suarez will be seen by the end of the season. Add a little of Mourinho's flair, Mancini's style and Fergie's tactical genius to the mix will definitely spice up the game. So come one, come all and experience the fun of this year's SJCYFL league.
